Judicial Profile: 15th COA Chief Justice Scott Brister

The 15th Court of Appeals’ initial Chief Justice is the Hon. Scott Brister. He has served at nearly every level of the Texas judicial system. He presided for 11 years over the 234th Judicial District Court for Harris County, Texas, before being elected to the First Court of Appeals [Houston] in 2000. In 2001, he was appointed by Governor Rick Perry as Chief Justice of the Fourteenth Court of Appeals [Houston], where he served until he was appointed to the Texas Supreme Court.

Chief Justice Brister served on the Supreme Court of Texas from 2003 through 2009, eventually being succeeded by former Justice Eva Guzman. Since leaving the Court, Brister has been in private practice at Hunton Andrews Kurth, where he was a Partner.
